The Sam Katz-produced series, Philadelphia- The Great Experiment (www.historyofphilly.com) had an episode on TV tonight about the mid-1800s. African American civil rights activist, Caroline LaCount, after a Pennsylvania law allowing blacks to ride public transportation was passed, attempted to board a trolley here and was denied permission. She went to municipal court and obtained an order that trolleys must permit blacks the freedom to ride trolleys, and the trolley operator was arrested.
