Springsteen courted wife Patti at this diner.

Springsteen courted wife Patti at this diner.

Bruce Springsteen courted his wife Patti Scialfa in the Empire Diner and in Clement Clarke Moore Park, across the street, on a bench at the edge of the park where they would sit and drink beer from cans in paper bags. Bruce proposed marriage to Patti in the park, using a makeshift ring made from a twig from a bush by the side of the diner. This information is from the Springsteen autobiography, Born to Run, at p. 379.
