P.T. Barnum exhibited 161-year-old slave here.

This is a sad and despicable story. In 1835, P.T. Barnum bought Joice Heth, reportedly a 161-year-old African American slave, and charged to see her on display here. See Starry-eyed 'Showman' harms history, a commentary by David Mindich, Philadelphia Inquirer, 1/3/18, at p. A13. Address confirmed at http://sohobroadway.org/a-look-back-at-broadways-soho/.
