Greatest Photo in Jazz Shot Here, Open Door Club

Greatest Photo in Jazz Shot Here, Open Door Club

"The greatest photo is Jazz" was shot here on Sept. 13, 1953, by photogpraher Bob Parent. It shows the Thelonius Monk Trio, namely, Mr. Monk, Charles Mingus and Roy Haynes, with Charlie Parker sitting in. The Open Door was described as "a dump." Another photo from the same night is believed to show Jack Kerouac in the audience. This information is from the New York Times, Metro p. 7, March 10, 2019.
