About

Andy Warhol bought Campbell's soup cans here for his paintings when it was a Finast Supermarket.

In the early 1960's art superstar Andy Warhol lived at 1342 Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. See, for ex. Blake Gopnik's "Warhol" at p. 193. Across the street at 1343 was the Finast Supermarket. See https://www.nytimes.com/1973/10/30/archives/new-supermarket-squad-seeks-east-side-thieves-commercial-robberies.html. Here, he (and/or his mother) bought the Campbell's soup cans he used for inspiration for his famous Soup Can paintings. See "Warhol at 194, 227.
