Springsteen played Sing Sing, 1972

Springsteen played Sing Sing, 1972

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed in the prison chapel for inmates here on 12/7/72. A prisoner, later identified as Joe Williams, got past the guards, crashed the stage, and pulled out an alto sax and joined in with the band, and played great. See Bruce by Peter Ames Carlin, at pp. 142-143. Curiously, Mr. Springsteen's maternal grandfather, lawyer Anthony Zerilli, spent time as a prisoner in Sing Sing ( Bruce at p. 7).

Comments : In Born to Run, his autobiography, at p. 21, Mr. Springsteen says of Mr. Zerilli, his grandfather, spent three years in Sing Sing prison for embezzlement (supposedly taking the rap for another relative).
