About

Second Fret Coffeehouse was here - Philly

The Second Fret Coffeehouse was here in the late 60s, early 70s. The Velvet Underground and Joni Mitchell performed there quite a few times. (A Google search will find a lot about it.) Bob Dylan performed at open-microphone night and was not liked by the proprietor (Phila. Daily News, 9/18/92). Added 12-2-18: Dan DeLuca's article in the Dec. 2, 2018, Phila. Inquirer at p. H4, discussed how Dylan's first Philly show may have been here, as a walk-on set for owner Manny Rubin, who did not like it.
