The first drive-in movie theater opened here on June 6, 1933. This is as near as I can tell. If anyone has better information, please comment. The architect has been listed as Howard E. Hall. The inventor/patent holder was Richard Milton Hollingshead, Jr.

Name : plaquemaster Email : sjkc0072@aol.com Comments : It was 82 years this past Saturday that the first drive in opened on June 6, 1933, in Camden, NJ by Richard Hollingshead showing Wife Beware. Our present drive in (originally called Route 45 Drive In) opened on June 2, 1946, showing Roy Rogers in Utah by our parents, William (Becky) and Alice Beck. My dad liked westerns and showed a lot of them back then. Date : 2015-06-10
Name : plaquemaster Email : sjkc0072@aol.com Comments : American Pickers showed a repeat tonight, from 2/24/16. Frank and Mike bought an Oilzum can, and they had a history placard that said something along the lines of Oilzum being owned by the operator of the first drive-in movie, and mentioned Wife Beware. Im not sure that this is correct. It seems to me that a Camden, N.J., oil company, R.M. Hollingshead, fits the bill, and Oilzum was a different company. If you have better info, please comment below.
