About

David Carroll's Artemis was here.

Artemis, a night club run by famed impresario David Carroll, was here in the early 1970s. Members of Cheap Trick and Nazz had worked here, and Billy Joel and David Bowie hung out there, see http://citypaper.net/articles/2002-10-17/cover3.shtml. I recall that David Bowie had an after-concert party there on the night he played the Spectrum.

Comments : I am sad to report that David Carroll, Artemis owner, died at the age of 81 on May 26, 2019. There is a good account of his life at ""/""/www.inquirer.com/obituaries/david-carroll-philadelphia-punk-hot-club-bar-noir-starlite-ballroom-20190531.html. The online obituary is longer than the one in today's Phila. Inquirer, at B4.
