Dock Street was once Dock Creek.

Dock Street was once Dock Creek.

Dock Creek had a tidal flow into the Delaware River. It became very polluted and was covered over a few years after the Revolutionary War, and present-day Dock Street is above it. Native Americans had called the creek Coocaconoon. It was called Dock Creek by European settlers because it seemed like the perfect place for docks upon which to build a city around.
