Old Covered Wagon Inn (Basie; Ellington; Nixon) to be replaced by a CVS?
This building has been here since the 1700s. For a long time, it was the Old Covered Wagon Inn, and the likes of Count Basie and Duke Ellington performed at it. Pres. Richard Nixon once ate paella here. A developer wants to raze it to build a CVS pharmacy, and preservationists are trying to save the building. The occupant, Thos. Moser the furniture making company, has to get out. This information is from the Philadelphia Inquirer, 2/16/16 at p. A1, A4. There is a Facebook page by those trying to save it, and a history there says that Guy Lombardo also played at the Old Covered Wagon Inn.
