Spirit of Enterprise - Most Unusal Public Sculpture in Philly?

Spirit of Enterprise - Most Unusal Public Sculpture in Philly?

People pass by this sculpture so quickly that they usually miss what makes it controversial. There is a giant faceless snake emerging from the male figure's groin. It is often said that it represents a sexual organ and stands for virility and fruitfulness (hence the title, Spirit of Enterprise), and that the sculptor, Lipchitz, pulled a fast one on Philly by getting it by the censors. What do you think?

Comments : I saw these coordinates on the Web for this statue. If not right on, they seem to at least be close. 39° 58 24.94 N 75° 11 26.84 W

Comments : This sculpture was created in 1953 not 2018. I worked nights and so did my friend. At around 1AM we would bike ride through the empty streets of Philly. Our fav route took us up The East River Dr. One night we discovered the sculpture and it blew our 18YO minds away. This was back in 1973. [Thank you for the note. The 2018 date is when the particular web page was created. Actually, it was posted under an earlier website that crashed and the posting was carried over to the new one on that date. I'll have to see about making the created date clearer. Thanks again. ---- Editor]
