The late Dr. Phillip J. Petillo was a luthier for many stars, engineer and scientist. In late 1972/early 1973, Mr. Springsteen bought from him a 1953 rebuilt Fender Telecaster with a neck from a 1950's-era Fender Esquire, for $185.
