Rev. Emmanuel Boehringer started an orphanage in his rowhome that was here, accepting its first child on Sept. 21, 1863. After a year, the orphanage moved to the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia, and then in 1871 it moved to where it still operates today, 1863 Bethany Road, Womelsdorf, PA 19567.
