Really cool mini bikes made in Taiwan, under the Toyoco brand, were assembled here in the early 1970s. They had Tecumseh engines. My dad knew the owner of the company, either a Dr. Shin or Chin (I don't remember exactly, as I was only about 13 at the time and my memory has faded). [See comments below for updated info. - Editor] My dad did some electrical relay work for a model of a desalinization plant Dr. Shin was designing for use by some island country. Dr. Shin was into many ventures. Off to the side of the Toyoco plant he had an electronics assembly plant that I think was building radios, but I might be wrong about the product. In any event, my dad bartered some of his work for a candy apple red and white Toyoco mini bike for me. I sure had a lot of fun with it, eventually selling it when I outgrew it. I wish I had held onto it.

Comments : I obtained the Articles of Incorporation for Toyoco Motors Co., Inc., from the PA corporation department. It was incorporated on 6/23/70 by Hsi Hu Lin. I will try to find more information.

Comments : The owner of that company was grandfather Dr. Shi Hu Lin and the other man was likely my great uncle Cho. My family has lots of stories building those bikes during the summer of 1970 listening to Mungo Jerry. The company shut down after he sent a lot of bikes up north on consignment and the customer went bankrupt and defaulted. Super cool to see there"u2019s still some of those bikes putting around after all these years.
