Most Famous Tower Records Was Here

I was thinking about how much I miss Tower Records just the other day. There is something great about browsing through record and CD bins. True, there are some good independent record stores around nowadays, but out in the suburbs where I live, they close by nine at night. With the schedule I've always kept, I like the idea of a store that stays open until midnight. In any event, there is a movement to gain landmark status for this building, and there is a lot of opposition. There is a lot about the controversy on the Web, where I read that this was also once the home of Madman Muntz's Stereo Pak's shop, where the first successful car stereo was sold. Plus, Elton John performed in the parking lot. The building is described on the Web as an example of Mid-Century Modern Roadside Vernacular Architecture. Sounds like a landmark to me!
