The Peace Eye Bookstore, owned by a founder of The Fugs band, was here in the 1960s. Andy Warhol printed flower banners for its opening. See p. 54 of The Downtown Pop Underground by Kembrew McLeod. There is quite a bit about the store on the Web, including that it had moved to 147 Avenue A.
