Old tombstones in fireplace - not that uncommon.

My grandfather built this home in the sixties. He used to have a small, long and narrow farm in the back and my grandmother had a small farmstand in front by the driveway. He kept a tractor in a shed conected to the rear of the garage. When it was sold it became a daycare for a while, and then various offices. You would never know there was once a farm in the back now. There was a dump nearby where old, damaged tombstones were thrown away. There were many pieces big enough so that they could be cut down for reuse, and people would use them for various purposes. Some of the stones in the fireplace in this home were originally tombstones, and I believe that if they were ever cut out you would find some inscriptions on the inside surfaces. It was a good form of recycling and saving a buck.
