Bee Hive Diner was here - Bensalem, PA

The Bee Hive was here. I don't know for how long, but it was here while I was growing up during the sixties. It was something like a diner; the plain building now houses Enterprise. Teens would hang there. It had pinball machines. The sign out front had a picture of a bee hive (the natural kind, not the boxes), and the slogan on it was Bring Your Honey. As I recall, the food was pretty good.

[I believe that "Bee Hive" rather than "Beehive" is proper, because the property was listed to "Bee Hive Luncheonette Inc." in the recorder of deeds office. See http://www.buckscountyboa.org/pt/datalets/datalet.aspx?mode=own_history&sIndex=3&idx=1&LMparent=20.  Also, search at https://www.corporations.pa.gov/search/corpsearch. Both suggest a start-up date of June 30, 1969. Plus, see the comment below about the help-wanted ads. --  Editor, 3/5/20]

Comments : I remember going to the Bee Hive throughout the late 70s and early 80s. Was sad to see it go. My family preferred the dining side, to the right as you would enter, with the long tables as I remember. Would always play the jukebox, a Seeberg Hideaway by the way. I loved flipping through the titles to see what was newly added. Every time I hear I Love a Rainy Night by Eddie Rabbit I think of the two foot cheese steaks and hoagies they served in those red baskets. Ah good times for sure!

Comments : This page has been getting a lot of traffic in the last week, and I don't see why. If you know, please comment. Bearnest's comment identifying the jukebox as a Seeberg Hideaway is interesting.

Comments : Major push in 2019 looking for photos of the Bee Hive for Bensalem historical society and many memories for orphans at the Hut, aka St. Francis Vocational school in Eddington Pennsylvania. I created a Facebook page for the later, welcome to join.

Comments : There are notices online from the Bensalem Historical Society seeking photos of the Bee Hive. Note that I went with Bee Hive instead of Beehive because the many help-wanted ads listed in the Courier Times in the seventies use Bee Hive.
