In 1907, John Wanamaker's department store was the first store to have a radio station. Beginning 5/22/1911, customers could exchange Marconigrams (Marconi radio messages) with ships in the Atlantic Ocean. In 1912, news of the sinking of the Titanic was learned over the Wanamaker radio.
