The Second Fret Coffeehouse was here in the late 60s, early 70s. The Velvet Underground and Joni Mitchell performed there quite a few times. (A Google search will find a lot about it.) Bob Dylan performed at open-microphone night and was not liked by the proprietor (Phila. Daily News, 9/18/92). Added 12-2-18: Dan DeLuca's article in the Dec. 2, 2018, Phila. Inquirer at p. H4, discussed how Dylan's first Philly show may have been here, as a walk-on set for owner Manny Rubin, who did not like it. [See comments for revision on the opening time period. Comments : The 2nd Fret opened in EARLY '60s. I was there opening night. It was snowing, so it was winter. I went there at least fifty times in the early '60s. Long before any rock bands played there.
